The Mardale

Build your Business with Us

With 'The Mardale Inn' now owned by the local community, we are ready to embark on the exciting journey of bringing the building - but more importantly, the soul - of this important Valley hub back to life. We believe this is a compelling opportunity for an ambitious and innovative tenant (couple) to build a unique business in this most beautiful and accessible part of the Lake District National Park.

The rest of this website will give you an understanding of the Bampton Valley area: its beautiful landscape in a quieter part of the Lakes with excellent access to the M6 and West Coast Main Line, its amazing local wildlife (eg RSPB Haweswater) and its long standing connections to fans of Wainwright and Withnail & I. There are many local holiday cottages in the area - but also an active and passionate core of local residents. The nearest pub to serve us is 4 miles away!

The Mardale Inn may have been closed for 4 years but with over 500 people having  invested to secure this historic pub for future generations, you can immediately benefit from the commitment as well as local and national interest that this implies.

The pub’s bar area is now being redecorated and will be available for drinks service from July onwards. A new kitchen will be installed by late summer, with the letting bedrooms being updated and available for letting from early 2023. With a 40 cover bar, generously sized kitchen, prep and storage area, 4 letting bedrooms with bathrooms and 2 bedroom tenant flat accommodation, this is a £300k+ per annum business opportunity that has the potential to achieve much more with the right operator.

Feel free to call us now on 01931 338754 or email tenant@bvcp.info for an early conversation on how you can work with us, influence the update work to the pub and build your unique business in the Lake District.

Why's a Community Pub different?

Plunkett Foundation has supported over 160 community pubs to success; nearly half of them operate on a tenanted model.

"Good partnership working can unleash hidden potential for both the community and you as the tenants."
